Susan Elena Esquivel, RYT 500 started dancing at age 5, beginning a lifelong fascination with form and alignment as well as the body/mind connection. She has been studying yoga for the past 18 years with a focus on the Iyengar tradition.
Susan Elena is registered with the National Yoga Alliance at the 500 hour level and is a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists. Currently, she is studying with Peentz Dubble and working towards assessment and certification in the Iyengar method. Her fascination with the spine led her to complete Senior Iyengar Teacher Elise Miller's Yoga for Scoliosis Certification Program. Working with spinal imbalances is one of her main interests and a way she hopes to ease suffering.
In 2009, she completed an Iyengar-based Advanced Teacher Training Program at Karuna Center for the Healing Arts with Eileen Muir and has taken workshops with master Iyengar teacher HS Arun, Kevin Gardner and Christian Pisano. Her strong interest in therapeutics led her to study with Doug Keller and Judith Lasater as well. Her love of yogic philosophy brings an added depth to her classes.
Susan Elena is a nationally recognized sculptor/artist, loves nature, playing the cello and believes yoga is the gateway for her students to reconnect with their bodies and spirits. Through yoga she endeavors to ease suffering and bring her students closer to a fuller, more joyful life.
Susan Elena teaches throughout the Western Massachusetts region including Karuna Center for Yoga and Healing Arts and is the owner and co-director of River Valley Yoga Center in Florence, MA. At River Valley Yoga Center, she is developing a program for those with scoliosis which combines private lessons and group classes as well as workshops. She is available for group classes, private lessons and therapeutics.
