I am a certified Integral Yoga instructor and have been teaching hatha yoga to a wide variety of students since 1990. I came to Yoga for Scoliosis serendipitously. Several years ago I met a woman here in Duluth who was looking for a yoga teacher trained in Yoga for Scoliosis. She showed me Elise Miller’s dvd, I found a Yoga Journal article Elise had written, and we began working together. Shortly thereafter, I received the spring workshop schedule from Satchidananda Ashram, where I had done my teacher training years before, and was surprised and excited to see that Elise would be there teaching Yoga for Scoliosis! My friend and I attended the workshop and were very impressed by Elise and her method. I have been sharing her work with my students with scoliosis ever since, and the results have been truly wonderful.
I teach yoga part-time here in Duluth, Minnesota. My full-time job is tending our home and mothering our two daughters. In case you’re wondering about that long e-mail/website address, a “grihastashrami” is one who sees the home as an ashram—a place where intense spiritual practice happens in the course of daily life together. My teaching style is safe and gentle, and I encourage students to take their practice “off the mat”, incorporating what they learn into their everyday lives. I am also a certified Ayurveda Health Educator and can help students fine-tune their yoga practice, diet and lifestyles to suit their particular constitutions.
