Laurel began practicing yoga in 1995 in order to avoid spinal fusion surgery. After one month of practice an orthopedic doctor advised her to not have the operation. What started as a pain remedy quickly grew into a passion and then in 2000, a desire to share yoga’s transformational practices with others. Thanks to her yoga practice, Laurel was able to return to college, completing a Philosophy and English degree in ‘06. In addition to completing the practicum of the Yoga for Scoliosis program, she is a graduate of the three-year Iyengar Training Program sponsored by the Iyengar Yoga Association of Southern California.

In summer ’06 and winter ’06-07, Laurel had the opportunity to study directly with Dr. Geeta Iyengar in Pune, India for the purpose of learning how to teach yoga to those who have scoliosis.

Her mentor, Gloria Goldberg, guides her while working with people with scoliosis both privately and in therapy classes at the B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga Center of La Mesa.
