Christine Sharkey is a registered physical therapist with more than 30 years of experience, specializing in neuromuscular and orthopedic problems in children and young adults. Christine began her yoga practice in 1996. After experiencing immediate improvements in her recurring back pain and her overall flexibility, she began to integrate aspects of yoga into her work as a physical therapist at a local hospital. In 2005 a client introduced her to Elise Miller’s work and she completed her 20 hour Yoga for Scoliosis teacher training in the same year. Noting how much her clients benefited from this newly acquired knowledge, she decided to further her yoga studies. She completed a 200 hour yoga teacher training program in the Iyengar method in December 2006, and continues to seek further training in therapeutic applications of yoga.
Christine is registered with the Yoga Alliance and is a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists. She sees clients at the Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, Massachusetts, where, together with an orthopedist specializing in spine problems, she also runs a scoliosis clinic for children and teenagers. She also has a private practice in which she uses a multidisciplinary approach to creating customized rehabilitation programs for people with scoliosis and other physical challenges.
