Vladimir was diagnosed with a minor functional scoliosis at age 12. The cause for this was his passion for art and drawing from an early age of 5. Unfortunately the way he was painting curled up on the floor contributed to developing the uneven curve in the spine.

It was by a lucky coincidence, that Vlad spent a summer in one of the summer camps for children in Crimea that year, where he met a very talented doctor as well as trainer for the national swimming team. He started working with him on a daily basis with specific physical exercises routine which was updated every couple of weeks, (much like Elise does with her students) and after the 3 month long course of work with Dr. Pavlov, Vladimir went back with a set of strict rules: no laying around on a couch, only sitting on stool or standing upright whenever reading, watching TV etc. and daily physical exercise. He followed this rules for years and was able to not only correct his scoliosis but also practice yoga and martial arts with dedication all the way thru his high school.

All of this had a deep impact on Vladimir’s career choice and shortly after coming to the U.S. he discovered Iyengar Yoga and became certified in the Iyengar system in 2006. Today, after two trips to Pune, India and studying with the Iyengar family and after taking Elise’s scoliosis training workshop in 2009 and getting certified, he teaches in the greater Los Angeles area.

Vladimir is a capable, confident and a compassionate teacher for scoliosis, having experienced firsthand what it means to live with it and believes in working individually to find a unique way to address each person’s challenges to live a more happy and fulfilling life.
