Kim Ellner
Kim was born with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) and underwent numerous months of body casting as an infant to treat this condition. Following that, she wore leg braces. At 13, she was diagnosed with scoliosis and wore a Milwaukee brace for several years to control her “S” curve.
In 2001, Kim found yoga and she felt its positive affects on her chronically aching back, immediately. Since then, Kim has avidly studied and taught yoga, using her personal experiences of body awareness, compassion and inner strength, learned throughout her childhood treatments, to further her students’ practice.
Kim has 200 hour certifications in both Hatha and Kripalu Yoga ( American Yoga Academy - 2002 & Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health- 2004), certified in Yoga for Osteoporosis by Sara Meeks- 2003, Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy Level 1 - 2005, Circus Yoga – 2006, Yoga for Scoliosis with Elise Miller – 2008. As well as Yoga for scoliosis workshops with Bobbie Fultz & Debra Wolk. Kim is currently in Iyengar Yoga training. Kim has also attended numerous meditation retreats and has practiced yoga with Kofi Busia, Theresa Rowland and Patricia Walden.
Kim’s teaching style is grounded in the joy of movement coupled with an in depth knowledge of how and why the body works the way it does. Her method is to personalize the yoga experience to make the most of each student’s strength, flexibility and capabilities.
